Thursday, July 29– For the sixth consecutive year the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports is the beneficiary of a local sponsorship to aid the running of its Vigilant Seafarers/Youth Service programme.
The programme operates in two segments each summer and continues with various activities throughout the year. The first session was held from July 5-30, and the second segment will run from August 9-27.
Mr. Clarence Malone and The Moorings Ltd. partnered to provide young people of the territory with a summer of sailing adventures that they may not normally have an opportunity to experience. The Moorings Ltd. provides two catamarans for thirty children weekly to facilitate ventures that sail them all around the Territory visiting various islands and cays.

Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Persia Tobin-Evelyn says, “She is elated that in spite of the economic downturn, there has been consistency with their involvement in the lives of young people”. She also expressed her appreciation for the company sponsor saying that they exhibit a great form of corporate citizenship. The contribution by The Moorings Ltd. is a part of the Vigilant Seafarers/Youth Service programme that has been held every summer since 2005 and continues to grow each year.
The programme houses several activities and while sailing trips are the highlights of the programme, the programme also includes snorkeling, swimming and educational workshops on health and hygiene, forming healthy relationships, making wise college and career choices, table manners and etiquette, and STD/STI Awareness. Participants are also exposed to cultural activities such as making, setting, and pulling fish pots and tour historical sites. The workshops and tours are conducted by volunteers.
