MARCH 18 – 21, 2010 Bienvenidos Sailors! We are pleased to present the Puerto Rico Heineken International Regatta and the Puerto Rico International Dinghy Regatta, to be held March 18, 19, 20 and 21, out of the beautiful new marina facilities at Palmas del Mar, in Humacao, located on the southeastern coast of Puerto Rico.
These sailing events attract some of the best big boat and dinghy sailors in the Caribbean – and the World. We invite you to join us! This year's move back to where this prestigious and internationally acclaimed regatta got its start in 1977 as the 'Copa Velasco' comes little more than a year after the opening of the multi-million dollar Palmas del Mar Yacht Club Marina. You will find state-of-the-art amenities at this 162-slip marina, which include restaurants, bars, lounge areas, a swimming pool, shops, a convenience store and deli. In addition, Customs & Immigration officials will be on hand to make entry easy. Discounts are available on marina slips and at the Palmas del Mar Hotel & Villas for one week before, during and one week after the regatta. Come race and relax! On the water, there are excellent conditions for racing that extend east to Vieques. Warm and steady trade winds are forecast to blow over the mix of round-the-buoy courses for one-design classes and round-the-islands courses for cruising classes.
This year's racing will be overseen by an exceptional set of International Judges and extraordinary Race Committee – the same that will run the 2010 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Mayaguez this summer! Get ready! Competition will be keen in every class – from beach cats to native build chalanas, from large cruising boats to hot sport boats, and from Optimists and Lasers to Snipes in the dinghy regatta. This will be the qualifying event for many classes for the 2010 CAC Games!
New this year! We welcome Kite-Surfing class, a sport now recognized by ISAF. Kite Surfers will compete in windward-leeward, freestyle and height events over the three days, right in front of the Yacht Club at Palmas del Mar for everyone to see.
