The United States man who went missing yesterday afternoon while snorkeling at The Baths off Virgin Gorda has been found alive, and is currently being tended to on the southern side of Fallen Jerusalem, according to officials on the scene.
Wayne Cole, a 38-year-old Florida man, currently is receiving water and is in the care of a BVI Marine Police officer and a Virgin Islands Search and Rescue volunteer, according to VISAR President Phil Aspinal. The two rescuers reportedly swam to the victim on the rocky shore from the VISAR and marine police rescue vessels anchored at a safe distance off the hazardous shoreline, Aspinal added.
A United States Coast Guard helicopter has been dispatched, and will transport the stranded swimmer to Peebles Hospital, the VISAR president said.
Cole was first reported missing yesterday at around 3:20 pm, after he started “experiencing difficulties” while snorkelling with his brother off The Baths, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.
