Luxurious Cruising Around the World w/ HYS

Photography by Alastair Abrehart – Broadsword Communications

An increasing trend in today’s sailing community is the ever-popular liveaboard platform – a way to live life with a real sense of freedom, see the world, and broaden horizons.

In case you are unfamiliar with this arising phenomenon, this is a popular option for avid sailing families or couples who enjoy the care-free nature of long-distance cruising. It’s a particularly attractive option for those who can afford 6 – 12 months off work on a sabbatical and wish to gift their children with a life-transforming experience in education, life skills, and maturity.

Due to the progress of countries around the world and the diversity of yachts provided by companies like Horizon Yacht Sales, this synchronicity has created a flexible experience that can be as luxurious, comfortable, and eco-friendly as desired.

“Having already owned two consecutive yachts in the Horizon Charter fleet since 2005, we knew that they would be the best option for our retirement dream; a yacht to live aboard…After viewing several yachts and discussing with Horizon Yacht sales we decided on the Bavaria Vision 46 to meet our needs. Equipping the boat was an interesting experience aided greatly by the proficient technical staff at Horizon, who made a potentially difficult process easy…” – Ian and Chrissy Wilson

The Pleasures of ‘Liveaboard’

On returning from 2016’s Annapolis Boat Show, Horizon Yacht Sales recognised the widespread desire of couples and families who sought to buy a large catamaran, go on a sabbatical or sell up their homes, and take to the seas. Most clients comprised of families with children in Primary education—viable for new adventures and home-schooling—and parents who longed to relieve the shackles of terra-lifestyle.

Re-strengthening of the economy and globalisation are arguably catalysts in this growing inclination toward family life at sea, reinforced by high speed internet connections and remote employment. Many families currently active in this lifestyle are affluent professionals able to work from abroad – some choosing to sell their properties and others maintaining their residences for short/long term let.

A unique skillset can be acquired when families live this liberating lifestyle, gaining knowledge of other countries, learning new languages, sampling cuisine from local produce, and integrating with other cultures – all while enjoying the luxuries of a high spec yacht.

“We finally departed the dock at Nanny Cay marina in January of 2016 and headed ‘down island.’ After four months, 20 different islands, and 12 different countries, we arrived in Grenada in late April having had a great winter season. Currently, we are back in Grenada exploring the Windward Islands in our second winter of cruising. Thanks to all at Horizon Yachts for helping us ‘live the dream.’” – Ian and Chrissy Wilson

Aimed at a US cliental, the Caribbean—and especially the BVI—is a key place to begin this journey, purchasing a yacht from an organisation like Horizon Yacht Sales who are so well supported throughout the entire Caribbean.

Using US currency on many of the islands and being renowned for safe sailing waters, it’s a fantastic initiation point for families who wish to fully take advantage of the liveaboard lifestyle and sail across the Atlantic or perhaps through the Panama to the Pacific Islands.

The Horizon Yacht Sales Service

Horizon Yacht Sales tailors and sells the vessels to their clients’ specifications. Options to place the yacht into charter service or take her straight off into the sunset are left to the owner’s discretion. After charter service, part of HYS’s provision is to retrofit anything the boat may require to make the owner’s accommodation increasingly indulgent for when they use their floating pride and joy. Adding water and ice makers, washing machines and dryers, and high tech gadgets for navigation, the choice is only limited by the size of the vessel.

With HYS bases covering the BVI, Antigua, Grenada, and St Vincent, accessibility across the Caribbean over is made effective and efficient. Friendly staff form a support network founded in family-like orientated service so all clients are welcomed and constantly guided with advice and relevant current-affair information.

The Horizon Yacht Sales’ Range

The two most popular liveaboard vessels that Horizon offer are Nautitech 46 Fly and the Nautitech Open 40, but Horizon provides a full range of monohulls as well.

Built by Bavaria who style all their yachts with fantastic interior finishes, there are two versions available of each yacht – the owner’s version and the charter version. The difference lies in space and cabin count; owner’s versions allow a more spacious feel with one hull completely unto the owner. Charter versions include one extra cabin totalling four cabins, permitting owners to maximise revenue. In addition to Bavaria, Horizon also represent Fountaine Pajot and Lagoon catamaran brands.

Try before you buy at the Miami Boat Show

Horizon Yacht Sales will have the only two brand new Fly 46s available in the world for the whole of 2017. Deemed the perfect liveaboard yacht, one of these magnificent showcase vessels will be at the Miami Boat Show this month, between 16 – 20 Feb.

A special offer—courtesy of HYS—entitles interested parties to charter the yacht and should they purchase her within three months, the charter price will be subtracted from the final sale figure.
