Tortola, British Virgin Islands May 7, 2007 – Horizon Yacht Charters proudly announces the launch of the first Lagoon 420 Hybrid charter to take place from their base in the BVI. The 420 is a huge, liveaboard cruising catamaran that packs more space and accommodations into 42 feet than you would imagine – Containing 4 cabins, each with island beds and 4 heads containing a separate shower.
This is the only boat on the market today that is a true hybrid diesel-electric auxiliary power system. This latest generation of electric motor sailing yachts is powered by two 10KW electric motors. When the batteries drop below 80% capacity the 21KW generator automatically cuts in to recharge the battery banks that supply the electric motors. While under sail the free spinning propellers recharge the battery banks as well.
So, if you are looking for a boat with a real difference then you should have a look at this hybrid drive system. Not only is this design strikingly silent, but it is ecologically greener and kinder to the environment.
