Dear Editor,
I very much enjoyed the article written by Ms Megan Scholbohm on the eight best anchorages in the BVI.
I really do think Ms Scholbohm did a wonderful job of emphasising the diversity and beauty of the British Virgin Islands and most importantly that journeying through them under sail is a magical life experience. From ‘The Picturesque Place’ to ‘The Sporty Spot’ to ‘The Natural Wonder’, I was struck, even as a resident of these Islands, just how lucky we all are.

For me personally though, it is White Bay at Jost Van Dyke that epitomises the best that these islands have to offer, combining, as it does, both a spectacularly beautiful anchorage with the laid back and fun Caribbean lifestyle offered by the bars and restaurants on the beach.
Indeed it might even be argued that a trip to the BVI is hardly ever complete without a taste of the heady nutmeg covered, pineapple and orange infused, rum based cocktail known affectionately, and internationally, as the ‘Painkiller’. For me, there is no other place to enjoy such a fine drink as from the perch of a hammock outside the infamous Soggy Dollar Bar or resting with your back against the mast of a sloop, listening to the Caribbean rhythms carried out to you on a breeze from the palm fringed shoreline.
Once again, it was a fantastic article and one which reminded me that life in the Caribbean is well worth living.
Yours Sincerely,
Owen Prew – Manuel Reef Marina, Tortola
