Background

In December 2015, entries under six categories were thrown open to home owners, business owners, interior designers, and architects to find the most stylish residential and commercial spaces.

The judging panel made up of industry experts were looking for entire rooms or spaces where the interior/exterior décor and design complemented one another and delivered a cohesive creative statement.

“Villa Lune is the perfect composition of indoor/outdoor living. The open flow allows for a seamless transition from kitchen to dining to outdoor living spaces and bedrooms. The water feature that flows from the rear courtyard down through the dining table is a subtle way to enhance the flow of indoor/outdoor space. Villa Lune was designed to make the most of its setting and is an outstanding example of indoor/outdoor living.” – Ben Butler, BCQS International

Winner: Ida Crest Villa, Simone Aïda Baur – Global Inspirations Design

“This beautiful kitchen has an elegant and sophisticated European style. The owner wanted a modern look and this was achieved with clean minimalist lines ensuring that the space encapsulated the beauty of Tortola’s beaches through understated sand coloured cabinet doors and the off-white quartz countertop which worked beautifully in this large, light filled space.” – Charlotte Bailey, Chief Operating Officer, Elian

“We were asked to review the entries for most creative use of space and for best expression of creativity. All entries were excellent but we were bowled over by the stark expression of creativity in the winning entrants use of colour. The artwork seamlessly incorporated the existing architectural features of the space, framing the kitchen window elevating this entry head and shoulders above the others.” – Johann Henry and Tatenda Gotosa

Most Stylish Living Room

House BVI

“The elegant calm colours in this living room allow the spectacular view to take centre stage. Neutrals are interesting when different textures and finishes harmonise together i.e. the jute rug, terra-cotta floor vases, and linen upholstery balance the dark wood finishes. Soft lighting from different directions and sources both inside and outside complement the scheme with both function and mood.” – Kate Henderson and Fran Morrell, House BVI

Supreme Award Winner

VP Bank

Winner: Aquamare, Virgin Gorda

“We believe that the Aquamare villa in Virgin Gorda deserves the VP Bank Supreme Winner award as it represents the true spirit of the British Virgin Islands. A very well designed ocean front home, exquisitely decorated with its layout appealing to every sense. A luxury Caribbean villa, modern in comfort and amenities.” – Sjoerd Koster, General Manager Client Business, VP Bank

Paint Factory BVI

Winner: Urban VI, Tortola Pier Park

Best Use of Colour_3_Rainbow Visions

Best Use of Colour_2_Rainbow Visions

“In selecting the winner for Best Use of Colour from the top three vote getters, we looked for a space where the use of colour was simple but one which had a profound effect. The winning space, Urban VI, reflects a sense of cohesiveness with their colour palette of red and olive green on the walls coupled together with black and the natural tones of wood and concrete used for flooring and display shelving. The space is functional and the colours brings about a sense of harmony and a level of design maturity.” – Shalina Pickering, Paint Factory BVI

“Pearlette and Marco’s vision was to turn a small apartment into a stylish, and upscale men’s clothier, a bachelor pad where men would feel comfortable shopping. What struck the Judges most was the creative way that this apartment was used for the purpose, veering away from the standard retail store space, creating an entire scene where a stylish way of life is brought to fruition, encapsulating total style – which is everything that Marco’s stands for.” Erin Paviour-Smith, Virgin Islands Property & Yacht

Sjoerd Koster, General Manager Client Business of VP Bank

“Stylish Spaces puts a spotlight on some of the most beautiful homes, situated in breath-taking locations across the British Virgin Islands. We have shared some of these unique architectural designs, looking to encourage domestic as well as foreign investors to consider investing in the Virgin Islands. Whether buying a home or designing and building your own stylish spaces, we hope this competition will inspire readers to discover our islands and to create their own exclusive and unique homes as a source of unforgettable moments.”
